Coterie (Foolishness)

Sorry it has been so long.... been extremely busy with work changing schedules and ministry work. here is the most recent topic and talk we did at Coterie.

Foolishness

(intro) crash clip

That's what the talk is today.... fools. The Bible talks about stupid people and wise people, which one do you think you are?

To be wise, you must first seek God.

What does that even mean?

To be wise..... smart, knowledgeable, sophisticated.

you must what? Actively seek God.

I used to think that foolishness was just a title given to someone who committed a stupid act. And believe me, I have encountered my share and more of stupid acts.

[Told a story about a time where brownie mix met exercise ball] -if you want to know what it was, email me and I'll tell you.

We were so stupid. That's what a foolish person was to me.

I'm not saying that if you don't actively seek God that you are gonna be stupid. But I am gonna let you know that in God's word we are told what a foolish person is and that we are not to be one.

Now, Psalm 14 tells us what a fool is.

Psalm 14: 1"The fool says in his heart, "There is no God."

They are corrupt, their deeds are vile; there is

no one who does good. 2 The Lord looks down

from heaven on the sons of men. To see if there

are any who understand, any who seek God.

Ok, so a fool says "there is no God" Yup

Sounds foolish to me. but let me show you another passage about foolish people.

Matthew 7: 26-27

26"But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. 27The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash."

The passage is saying that if you just take God's word and don't do anything with it.... you're foolish! The message puts it in to perspective.

verse 26 says: "but if you use my words in Bible studies and don't work them into your life...."

"Psalm 14 man" vs. "Matthew 7 man" who are you?

so it's saying that if you hear something to be true but continue anyway...its foolish for example:

*traffic sign.... red light...keep going... you might be ok, but eventually its not gonna end good.

*read the car manual.... takes gas.....put diesel in..... might be ok.... gonna ruin the car.

so this is not putting into practice things we know to be true, but continuing anyway.

*not brushing teeth....will still look ok for a but....then get all kids of sick and teeth fall out.

you can't just fake it. You musk actively seek God.

Dont answer, but think about this: are there things you know God siad that are true but you havent put them into practice?

Real quick here are some ways you can actively seek God.

Read- reading your Bible...your map to navigate through life.

Pray- talking to God...growing in your relationship.

Act- actions and steps you take to reflect Christ in your lifestyle.

James 2:17 says that faith without actions is dead.

So back to the verse in Matthew. But lets look a little bit before that. Verse 24

Matt 7: 24 "Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock."

Right there you have the instructions. Read the word and take action.

Proverbs 2:6 For the Lord gives wisdom, and from His mouth come knowledge and understanding.

So if you actively seek God and and grow in His word, when the rain comes down and times get tough.... you WILL know how to stray from foolishness.

A wise man actively seeks God.

but not acting in the word.... you have no idea what God wants to do through your life if you aren't fully obedient to Christ.

So what might happen if you listened to God?

What might he want to do through you?

What will he do when you begin to act on His call?

Pray.

The night went well and we all had a great time. Please continue to pray for the ministry and the kids who attend. Thank you. I appreciate your prayers. have a wonderful day.
